GreenFlexJet Overview
The innovative GreenFlexJET project (of which WRG Europe Ltd is a partner) is developing two novel routes to create sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from organic waste feedstocks based around Fraunhofer's Thermo-Catalytic Reforming (TCR) technology. The first route is using used cooking oil (UCO) that are upgraded then hydro-treated using the green hydrogen from TCR, thereby maximing greenhouse gas savings. UCO is already a certified route for SAF, so the process can be rapidly validated and up-scaled. The second route uses a range of biogenic wastes, such as garden waste and anerobic digestate, transformed to bio-crude oil via the TCR process and then upgraded to kerosine. This route will require a longer certification process, but will create a novel additional pathway to SAF.
This project will provide clear technical and economic validation by building a demonstration plant in the UK at pre-commercial scale to deliver high quality SAF. The GreenFlexJET project will deliver a blueprint for the production and distribution of this novel SAF technology. This will be a showcase that facilitates the delivery of medium to long-term carbon reduction targets that have been set for the aviation industry in Europe and beyond.
