FishEUTrust Overview

FishEUTrust is a 4-year Innovation Action aimed at enhancing trust in and use of EU fish supply chains. FishEUTrust will establish five Co-creation Living Labs in the Mediterranean Basin, the North Sea and the Atlantic Sea. These will enable innovation and process validation and demonstrate the project's supply chain solutions.

Examples of supply-chain innovation include creating sustainable business models, protecting cultural and culinary heritage, short food supply chains, exploiting underused fish species, and innovative engagement activities to stimulate positive consumer behaviour.

The project will also develop tools to maximize trust by guaranteeing the quality, safety, and traceability of seafood products based on smart control systems (sensors), metagenomics, genetic biomarkers, isotopic techniques, and labelling/product passport/blockchain. These tools will be integrated into a single digital FishEUTrust data platform.

FishEUTrust and Sea2See Workshop in Malta

FishEUTrust organised a hybrid meeting with the EU Sea2See project to discuss stakeholder mapping, engagement, and Living Labs. Arranged and facilitated by the AquaBioTech Group at their premises in Malta, a 2-day workshop was held to discuss mutually beneficial project activities and sharing of information.

While both projects have different overall objectives and approaches, they share a common aim in improving trust and uptake of EU fish sources. A part of this relates to defining and maximising engagement with stakeholders within the seafood supply chain as well as consumers. By sharing data such as stakeholder maps, the primary purpose of the workshop was to create an action plan to define common strategies to ensure maximum engagement with target audiences and prevent duplicated effort.

FishEUTrust Kick-off Meeting

The FishEUTrust Consortium Members, including both the Beneficiaries and Associated Partners, met on 12th of September 2022 at the Reactor Center, Brinje 40 in Ljubljana (Slovenia) to discuss the FishEUTrust vision and mission, and to examine in detail all its Work Packages (WPs) with a focus on the activity plan for the first 6-9 months. Some of the attendees including the representative of the European Commission (policy officer and project officer) joined the meeting on-line via Zoom.

The first day consisted of a plenary session that gave an overview of the project structure and introduced the project Beneficiaries and Associated Partners. In addition, an introduction on the policy context and expectations and GA provision was provided by EC policy officer and project officer. The next part of the meeting was dedicated to the presentations and feedback of WPs 1-4. The second day of the KoM continued with a detailed examination of WPs 5-10.
